What should a data and security hiring brief include?

A useful brief names the systems, data classes, users, controls, and operating events the hire will own. For data roles, document ingestion, transformation, storage, quality checks, lineage, access, and the decisions built on the output. For security roles, define the protected assets, identity boundary, detection sources, incident duties, audit evidence, and change process. NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 groups security outcomes under Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. Employers can use those outcomes to separate engineering, operations, governance, and leadership work before choosing a title. Screening should then test one relevant design or incident scenario and record what the candidate decided, implemented, measured, and handed off.
